Felted sheepskins are a sustainable take on the classic sheepskin. Instead of the rug being made once the sheep has died these are made from the sheared wool from the sheep’s annual haircut and backed with carded wool and wet felted to give it a firm base.
This is really great for customers are they can be told exactly which sheep their rug has come from and even watch it out in the field. We like to showcase Mr Farmers stock marks as well as it adds to the story behind each piece and makes them completely unique.
Pretty much any type of fleece can be turned into a felted rug, we tend to focus on anything with an interesting colour or staple. Mrs Farmers personal favourite is the Hebridean with their beautiful tones of browns, blacks and silvers with wavy locks.
