One day Mr and Mrs farmer were talking about how little wool is worth nowadays. Selling to the wool board barely covers the shearing costs but to stick it all on a muck heap is a giant shame. There had to be a way to make more out of the wool produced and Mrs Farmer did enjoy a bit of crafting…
So, having never worked with wool before, never processed a fleece into something usable Mrs Farm set to work on washing the fleece of a Valais Blacknose ewe we had as a pet at the time called Gwendoline. She decided to give needle felting a go, it wasn’t a disaster and other people asked if they could buy one of their own!
Since then Mrs Farmer has given other woolly crafts a go including wet felting sheep ‘skins’, peg loom woven rugs and frame weaving. Now using the wool from our sheep is an essential part of our business as we strive to be as sustainable as possible and utilise every part of our flock.
